Description

Overview
The Planetary Ball Mill PM 100 is a benchtop planetary ball mill with a single grinding station and a user-friendly counterweight compensating masses up to 8 kg. It processes up to 220 ml sample per batch and generates very high centrifugal forces for fast pulverization. The PM 100 is suitable for research and routine industrial tasks requiring purity, speed, fineness and reproducibility: mechanochemistry, ultrafine colloidal grinding, mixing and homogenizing of soft, hard, brittle or fibrous materials.

Key features
  • Speed range 100–650 rpm; speed ratio 1 : -2
  • Feed size up to 10 mm; final fineness down to 0.1 µm (colloidal)
  • Single grinding station; compatible jars from 12 ml to 500 ml; stackable 12–80 ml jars
  • Optional GrindControl for in-jar temperature and pressure monitoring
  • Aeration lids for controlled atmosphere (inert gas possible)
  • Storable SOPs and programmable cycle programs
  • Five jar materials for dry and wet grinding; stainless steel protective jackets available

Fast & Powerful
  • High energy input for rapid size reduction to submicron and colloidal ranges
  • Wet grinding achieves nanometre-range particles (<100 nm) under suitable conditions
  • Acceleration up to 33.3 g; batch-wise processing up to 1 x 220 ml (or 2 x 20 ml with stacked jars)

Reproducibility, safety and easy handling
  • Accurate speed control for reproducible results
  • Secure and ergonomic jar clamping with SafetySlider to prevent start without clamped jars
  • FFCS (Free-Force Compensation Sockets) for stable bench mounting
  • Counterweight and imbalance sensor enable unattended operation
  • Ergonomic 1-button operation, digital display and automatic chamber ventilation
  • 10 storable SOPs, programmable start time and power-failure backup for remaining run time

Settings & Options
  • Dry and wet grinding; long-duration runs up to 99 h
  • Interval mode with configurable pauses and direction reversal to reduce caking
  • Optional GrindControl (pressure/temperature) and aeration lids for argon/nitrogen

EasyFit grinding jars and materials
  • Jar sizes available: 12 ml, 25 ml, 50 ml, 80 ml, 125 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml
  • AAT anti-twist on 50–500 ml jars for secure fit and reduced wear
  • Three lid diameter categories providing interchangeable lids where applicable
  • Pressure-tight O-ring seals, dust-proof and with groove for easier lid opening
  • Jar/ball materials: hardened stainless steel, tungsten carbide, agate, sintered aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide; stainless steel jackets for fragile jars

Adapter & Accessories
  • Adapter for disposable vials (e.g. 1.5 ml GC vials): outer ring 16 positions + inner ring 8 positions (24 total) for screening
  • Special closures for colloidal/wet grinding and ergonomic handling

Wet & Nano-scale Grinding
Wet grinding is recommended to reduce particle sizes (<5 µm) and limit agglomeration from surface charging. Nano-scale results (<100 nm) are obtained using many small grinding balls; ideal jar filling for nano grinding ~60% small balls by volume. Example: alumina in water with 1 mm balls reached 200 nm after 1 h at 650 rpm and ~100 nm after 4 h; two-step (1 mm then 0.1 mm) produced ~76 nm.
