Project OverviewThis scope covers renovation and reconstruction of a hybrid interventional 1.5T MRI operating room and supporting spaces. Work includes cleanroom finishes, non-magnetic structural works, RF shielding, sterile flooring, antibacterial wall and ceiling systems, non-magnetic medical fittings, clean HVAC finishing, noise reduction and dust control for the main OR, equipment room, corridor and buffer zones. The room is designed for combined 1.5T MRI scanning and surgical procedures and must meet operating room cleanliness, hospital infection control, MRI magnetic-safety and RF shielding standards.
Construction Preparation- On-site verification of structural dimensions, floor elevation, load capacity, equipment positions, shielding penetrations and HVAC points; confirm civil base meets requirements.
- Strict material control: only non-magnetic, medical-grade, antibacterial and OR-specific components allowed; ferrous materials prohibited; materials submitted for approval before use.
- Zoning of works for cleanroom finishing, shielding and decoration with dust and contamination control to preserve cleanliness levels.
- Technical briefings to construction teams on non-magnetic installation, shielding welding, clean-edge finishing and aseptic construction methods.
Key Construction Procedures3.1 Floor Construction (Sterile surgical flooring)- Prepare and level base; apply multi-layer waterproof and moisture-proof treatments to prevent damp and microbial growth.
- Reinforce and precision-level pathways and equipment bases to support MRI transport and operating table stability.
- Install seamless non-magnetic antibacterial anti-static flooring with fully curved internal corners; disinfectant-resistant and easy to clean to comply with OR cleanliness codes.
3.2 RF Shielding System Construction (Core MRI Works)- Construct fully enclosed hexahedral RF shielding with continuous welds; eliminate cold joints and gaps to ensure shielding integrity.
- Install dedicated MRI shielding doors and observation windows with knife-edge contacts and overlapping tolerances to prevent electromagnetic leakage.
- Seal all penetrations (ventilation, power, water, signal) with waveguide vents and RF filters to avoid image interference and artifacts.
3.3 Wall and Ceiling Cleanroom Decoration- Assemble non-magnetic antibacterial color steel panels with tight seamless joints; panels resistant to iodophor, alcohol and medical disinfectants.
- Install lightweight non-magnetic ceiling systems integrated with supply and return ducts to maintain required airflow patterns.
- Use dedicated non-magnetic trim, fasteners and corners to prevent magnetic interference and ensure aseptic surfaces.
3.4 Installation of Cleanroom & Non-magnetic Auxiliary Facilities- Fit lighting, shadowless lamp mounts, sockets and junction boxes with certified non-magnetic medical products arranged according to OR workflow.
- Adapt air purification and fresh-air systems to the shielding envelope to preserve ventilation and filtration without compromising RF integrity.
- Complete airtight sealing, dust control, noise reduction and antibacterial finishing to provide stable temperature, humidity and low-noise conditions for surgery.
Quality Control Measures- Zero tolerance for ferromagnetic materials on site to prevent magnetic field distortion, image artifacts and equipment hazards.
- Inspect shielding integrity at welds, door/window joints and penetrations to prevent RF leakage and crosstalk.
- Verify cleanroom finishes for seamless panels, curved corners, dust-free surfaces and disinfectant resistance to meet aseptic requirements.
- Validate compatibility of hybrid functions: surgical operation, sterile environment, MRI imaging performance and electromagnetic shielding.
Acceptance Criteria- RF shielding attenuation ≥ 80 dB at 100 MHz with no detectable electromagnetic leakage and artifact-free MRI images.
- Complete non-magnetic internal structure with no exposed ferromagnetic fittings, compliant with safe operation of 1.5T MRI equipment.
- Operating room meets Class 10,000 cleanliness with antibacterial, dust-proof and anti-static performance per hospital infection control standards.
- All shielding, cleanroom and decoration joints pass inspection and full technical documentation is provided for hospital, equipment manufacturer and third-party testing.
