OverviewThe optical sensor BLD03 detects non-invasively smallest traces of human blood in clear fluids inside transparent flexible plastic tubing. Tested to IEC 60601-2-16:2018, the sensor reliably recognizes 0.35 ml/min of blood at a flow rate of 800 ml/min and a hematocrit level of 32 %. Proven hardware design and advanced algorithms provide high immunity to ambient light.

Measurement PrincipleThe BLD03 measures transmitted light intensity through liquid-filled tubing. The measuring cell includes an LED light source and a photodiode (LDC - light to digital converter). The LDC digitally measures light intensity which is evaluated by firmware. With increasing contamination (blood) light intensity decreases due to absorption and reflection; when attenuation relative to a calibrated reference exceeds a threshold the sensor raises an alert.
