Cortisol, produced in the adrenal cortex, is a steroid hormone and is secreted against stimuli such as external stress. To do this, cortisol causes each organ of the body to release more blood, which can lead to rapid pulse and breathing, and hypersensitivity reactions such as increased blood pressure and muscle tone. In addition, when excess cortisol is secreted due to excessive stress, fat accumulation due to increased appetite may occur. In general, cortisol increases during the day and then decreases again, starting to increase in the early morning, peaking around 8 am, and then gradually decreasing until evening. If the working pattern is irregular, cortisol levels may also be irregular.
