Overview
Planmeca Romexis® is a flexible, clinic-grade 2D imaging software platform for dental practices and hospitals. The Romexis 2D module enables capture, enhancement, annotation and management of panoramic, intraoral and cephalometric images, and can be extended with additional Romexis modules for 3D imaging, CAD/CAM and other workflows.

Optimal dental X-ray images – always
The Romexis 2D module uses adaptive pre-processing filters to ensure X-ray images are acquired with minimal post-capture correction. It supports panoramic, intraoral and cephalometric acquisitions and records exposure values automatically when used with compatible Planmeca devices.

Simple and powerful imaging tools
Romexis provides intuitive enhancement, annotation and measurement tools tailored to dental specialties. Integrated AI features streamline intraoral workflows by automating tooth detection, numbering and orientation adjustments, reducing repetitive tasks and saving clinician time.

Streamlined intraoral imaging workflow
Support for bitewing and full‑mouth series templates enables standardised acquisition. Customisable study templates, automatic tooth numbering and configurable ordering simplify image organisation. Third-party intraoral sensors and PSP scanners are supported via TWAIN drivers.

Open and compatible
Romexis is DICOM-compliant and supports TWAIN, allowing integration with third‑party imaging devices including cameras, video sources, dental sensors and PSP scanners. Captured images are stored in a centralised Romexis database and can be exported in standard formats for sharing or archiving.

Flexible searches
Images can be searched by patient name, diagnosis, imaging operator or tooth number. Automatic tooth numbering enables filtering per tooth and historical comparisons across studies.

Integrated document management
Create multi-page radiology reports and high-quality printouts. Attach reports, referral letters, cephalometric tracings and other documents to patient records for complete case documentation.

Photo and video storage
Store patient photographs, videos and documents alongside X-rays. Create photo templates and import images automatically from connected still cameras or scanners via TWAIN.

Second Opinion® integration
Optional integration with the Second Opinion® service delivers real‑time AI analysis for dental X-rays. Findings and annotations from the service are returned to Romexis, and images can be sent automatically or on demand for additional review. The service supports intraoral and panoramic images.

View and share images with complementary apps
A lightweight desktop viewer and mobile imaging apps enable remote access to and capture of Romexis images, facilitating image sharing across partners and devices.

Grows with your clinic
The 2D imaging module is included in core Romexis bundles and serves as the foundation for adding modules such as 3D imaging, CAD/CAM and smile design as practice needs evolve.
