OverviewPlanmeca Romexis® is a comprehensive dental software platform providing versatile, intuitive tools for clinics, hospitals and laboratories. The Romexis 3D imaging module supports all 3D image types and centralises CBCT images, model scans and 3D photos in a single interface for streamlined workflows.
Software for all 3D imagesThe 3D module enables efficient capture, viewing and management of CBCT volumes, surface model scans and 3D photographs. It includes advanced tools for treatment planning, analysis and documentation.
For all needs and specialtiesThe module contains dedicated 3D imaging tools for multiple dental specialties:
- Orthodontics
- Prosthodontics
- Implantology
- Endodontics
- Maxillofacial surgery
- General dentistry
Powerful 3D diagnostic toolsMultiple rendering views provide immediate overviews of patient anatomy, with options to generate panoramic images and cross-sectional slices. Measurement and annotation tools, including nerve canal tracing, support precise and safe treatment planning. Various 3D rendering modes enhance visualisation and patient communication.
AI-powered workflowsAI features automate recognition and segmentation of anatomies (teeth, nerves, jaws, airways, sinuses) and facilitate automatic fitting of CBCT and intraoral scans, reducing manual steps and accelerating processing.
Tooth-number based navigationAutomatic tooth-number recognition lets users navigate a CBCT volume by selecting the tooth in the chart; all views centre on the chosen tooth. Individual teeth can be cropped from the 3D view for focused examination.
Efficient airways analysisAirways segmentation is performed with a few clicks; the software calculates airway volume and minimal cross-sectional area and displays coloured airway maps. Low-dose imaging protocols for airway assessment are supported.
3D photographyThe module displays and analyses 3D photos acquired with Planmeca ProFace® or imported in OBJ format. 3D photos can be mapped to CBCT images and digital impressions to build a virtual 3D patient for simulations and before‑and‑after comparisons.
Orthodontic diagnosesRomexis tools support analysis of skeletal symmetry, detection of unerupted and supernumerary teeth, root resorption and orientation. Cephalometric images and panoramic views can be derived from CBCT volumes for analysis.
TMJ viewsSpecialised TMJ views allow simultaneous assessment of both joints with precise measurements; AI assists by automatically recognising condyles.
Tools for endodonticsAll Planmeca 3D imaging units offer a high-resolution mode (75 µm voxel) suitable for endodontic diagnostics; combined with Romexis visualisation, this supports assessment of root canals, fractures, traumas and resorption.
Superimposing CBCT imagesThe module allows flexible superimposition of two CBCT volumes for before‑and‑after comparison useful in orthodontics, orthognathic follow-up and sinus monitoring.
Open and compatibleRomexis imports and exports standard 3D and DICOM formats. Volumetric DICOM can be converted to surface models and exported as STL (individual or combined). Integration with 3rd‑party software, lab portals and services enables streamlined export and external tool launch.
Easily shared resultsCBCT studies can be converted to multi‑page printouts, shared with compatible viewers and mobile apps, or transferred via cloud services for collaboration between clinics.
Expandable moduleThe Romexis 3D module can be expanded into full treatment planning workflows for implant planning and orthognathic surgery, including surgical guide and splint design.
Tutorials and learning resourcesVideo tutorials and user documentation are available to learn efficient use of Romexis features and workflows.
