Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) is the liquid fraction of blood depleted of cellular components and coagulation factors. It is obtained after centrifugation of coagulated fetal bovine blood collected aseptically. Sterile FBS is produced by triple filtration at 0.1 µm.

Function and composition
FBS contains proteins and growth factors that support maintenance and proliferation of eukaryotic cells in vitro. It also provides attachment factors that form a coating on plasticware, enhancing cell adhesion. FBS supplies multiple components required for routine cell culture applications.
