Product overviewPALACOS® R+G is a high-viscosity, radiopaque polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement containing the antibiotic gentamicin, coloured green (colourant E141). First introduced in 1972 as the first commercially produced antibiotic-loaded bone cement, it is widely used in arthroplasty and supported by registry data indicating lower revision rates and longer implant survival versus other bone cements.
Key features- High-viscosity PMMA bone cement
- Radiopaque formulation
- Contains gentamicin antibiotic
- Green colouring (E141)
Indications- Anchoring of endoprostheses in primary and revision arthroplasty of hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, elbow
- Bone reconstruction using the induced membrane technique after tumor surgery and/or trauma
Clinical evidence & historyPALACOS® R+G was launched in 1972 and is considered a reference product in arthroplasty. Real-world data from large arthroplasty registries (e.g., NJR) report significantly lower revision rates and longer implant survival for hip and knee implants cemented with PALACOS® R+G compared with other bone cements. Several comparative studies and registry analyses are cited in the literature.
