OverviewThe E-Cath® II / E-Cath® II Plus system, developed with Dr Ban Tsui, simplifies the Catheter‑Over‑Needle (CON) technique to a reproducible single‑operator workflow. It is intended for peripheral nerve block procedures where intermittent or continuous postoperative analgesia is required. The system integrates catheter design and SonoPlex® needle features to support ultrasound-guided placement and secure infusion.
Quite Easy: CON Technique in Three Steps- 1. Place the indwelling catheter over the SonoPlex® E-Cath II needle.
- 2. Remove the needle.
- 3. Advance and secure the E-Cath® II (or E-Cath® II Plus) catheter for infusion.
Key Features & Advantages (E-Cath II / E-Cath II Plus)- Bayonet Lock: Positive audible and tactile click to verify engagement between indwelling catheter and E-Cath® catheter.
- Self Priming System: Proximal opening enables anesthetic flow between catheter layers during injection, improving echogenicity on ultrasound.
- Two Catheter Layers: Combined lumen architecture enhances kink resistance and positional stability.
- Integrated Injection Tube: Permanently fixed injection line reduces leakage risk and enables direct administration.
- Integrated Stainless Steel Reinforcement (E-Cath II Plus): Proximal steel wire facilitates placement and handling for the Plus variant.
- Sealed Puncture Site (CON): Indwelling catheter diameter exceeds puncture needle diameter to maintain tissue tension after needle removal, lowering leakage and dislodgement risk (E-Cath II).
- Distal & Proximal Outlets (E-Cath II): Distal plus proximal openings support continuous flow and 360° anesthetic distribution even if one outlet is occluded.
- Closed Tip with Three Lateral Openings (E-Cath II Plus): Designed to achieve uniform circumferential spread of local anesthetic.
SonoPlex® Needle Features & Advantages- Cornerstone Reflectors: 360° graduations on the first 20 mm of the needle in two sections enhance ultrasound visibility of shaft and tip, especially at steep angles.
- NanoLine Coating: Ultra-thin polymer in inner and outer lumens; stimulation occurs only via the non-insulated needle tip.
- Depth Markings: Solid black markings support visualization of insertion depth during placement.
