Short descriptionAbsorbent polyurethane foam wound dressing with perforated soft silicone wound contact layer and waterproof, breathable outer film. Sterile, individually wrapped.
Product InfoESPUMA® Gentle is an absorbent foam wound dressing designed to manage exudative wounds while minimising trauma at dressing changes. The outermost layer is a waterproof, bacteria- and virus-resistant breathable polyurethane film. The wound contact layer is a perforated soft silicone gel that allows atraumatic removal and enables exudate transfer to the absorbent foam.
Features- Perforated soft silicone contact layer enables painless, atraumatic dressing removal.
- Pattern-coated or perforated silicone permits free passage of exudate to the foam, reducing risk of maceration.
- High-absorption polyurethane foam provides fluid handling and cushioning.
- Breathable top sheet enhances evaporation and fluid management capacity.
- Waterproof outer film prevents strike-through and allows showering with dressing in place.
Indications- Superficial and granulating wounds
- Acute and chronic exuding wounds
- Full- and partial-thickness wounds (pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers)
- Infected wounds (use under professional care)
- Malignant wounds
- Surgical wounds
- First- and second-degree burns
- Donor sites
- Skin tears
- Fungating ulcers
- Suitable for use under compression bandaging
- Suitable for patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa (specialist care required)
ContraindicationsDo not use on patients with known sensitivity to silicone, polyurethane or any dressing components. Do not use with oxidizing agents (e.g. hypochlorite solutions, hydrogen peroxide) as they may degrade the absorbent polyurethane layer.
Precautions- Use on infected wounds only under healthcare professional supervision.
- Reusing dressings may increase infection or cross-contamination risk.
- Do not combine silicone hydrocellular dressings with oxidizing agents.
- Discontinue use if signs of skin stripping occur.
- If clinical infection is suspected, seek professional medical treatment.
- Prophylactic use does not replace comprehensive pressure injury prevention measures.
- Use caution when applying near nose/mouth or under medical devices where moisture may affect adherence.
- Patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa require specialist handling.
- Heel sizes are not a substitute for pressure-relief devices.
- Dispose of the device according to local regulations to minimise infection and environmental risk.
How to Use1. Cleanse the wound per local clinical protocol.
2. Select a dressing size that overlaps wound margins by at least 2 cm.
3. Remove the sterile dressing aseptically from packaging and apply.
For variants without adhesive border:
1. Cut non-adhesive variants to fit irregular areas or to wound size when used under compression.
2. Remove release liner and place dressing on wound.
3. Secure with a secondary film dressing or conforming bandage.
4. To remove, gently lift dressing corners away from the wound.
How does it work?- Soft silicone contact layers are hydrophobic and lightly tacky: they do not adhere to moist wound beds but adhere gently to periwound skin, minimising trauma and residue on removal.
- Polyurethane foam is gas- and vapor-permeable and hydrophilic, offering high absorption, thermal insulation, cushioning and pressure relief. Foam supports both exudate management and prophylactic use for pressure injuries.
How suppliedESPUMA® Gentle Comfort is supplied individually wrapped in heat-sealable sterile packaging and sterilized by ethylene oxide.
