Description

Overview
Pharmagel Comfort is a sterile transparent polyurethane gel wound dressing with approximately 60% water content and a hypoallergenic polyurethane adhesive border designed to reduce bacterial penetration. It maintains a moist wound environment while absorbing and locking exudate to support granulation and epithelialization.

Features
  • Creates and maintains a moist environment suitable for chronic wounds and for promoting wound healing; provides a slight cooling effect for patient comfort.
  • Non-adherent to the wound bed and provides cushioning protection.
  • Permeable to gases and water vapour while protecting periwound skin from maceration.
  • Leaves no residue on the wound on removal.
  • Transparent design allows regular visual monitoring without removing the dressing.
  • Does not dissolve when absorbing exudate.
  • Individually packed in moisture-proof pouches; sterilized by radiation.

Indications
  • Chronic and slow-healing wounds in the granulation and epithelialisation phases.
  • Debridement support and management of superficial (second-degree) burns due to its three-dimensional structure and high water content.

Contraindications
  • Do not use on clinically infected wounds or third-degree burns.
  • Not indicated for heavily exuding wounds or wounds with exposed muscle, bone or tendon.

Precautions
  • Do not use in patients with known sensitivity to propylene glycol.
  • Discontinue and seek medical advice if local reddening or allergic reaction occurs.
  • Dispose of used dressings as contaminated clinical waste.

How to Use
  • Cleansing: Clean the wound according to local protocols and rinse with saline; gently dry surrounding skin.
  • Cutting: Standard Pharmagel products can be cut to fit the wound shape. Note: Pharmagel Comfort must not be cut before use.
  • Selection: Choose a dressing slightly larger than the wound area.
  • Application: Remove protective liner and apply the gel dressing in intimate contact with the wound base, ensuring full coverage.
  • Fixation: For standard Pharmagel use a secondary retention dressing. For Pharmagel Comfort, press the adhesive edges to secure and remove the outer support layer.
  • Removal: Gently lift the dressing using tweezers, forceps or a gloved hand; it comes away without leaving residue.

Frequency of Change
  • May be left in place up to 7 days depending on exudate level and clinical assessment.
