Short descriptionHighly retentive hydrocellular (polyurethane) foam dressing with a hydrocolloid adhesive border; sterile single-use dressing available in multiple sizes.
DescriptionESPUMA® Adhesive Plus combines a central absorbent polyurethane foam pad with a surrounding colloid hydrocolloid adhesive film substrate that extends beyond the island pad margin to provide secure peripheral adhesion.
Indications- For use under the supervision of a healthcare professional in management of partial to full thickness wounds including:
- Venous, arterial and diabetic ulcers
- Pressure ulcers and at-risk skin
- Donor sites and post-operative wounds
- Second-degree burns and skin abrasions
Contraindications- Do not use in patients with known sensitivity to polyurethanes or polyacrylates.
- Not indicated for third-degree burns or wounds with profuse bleeding.
- Not intended as a primary dressing for dry wounds, dry eschar, or sinus tracts.
Precautions- Use on infected wounds only under clinical supervision with appropriate infection control measures.
- Product is sterile unless the pouch is damaged or opened prior to use.
- Do not cover with occlusive films or tapes that prevent moisture vapor transmission.
- Avoid contact with oxidizing agents (e.g. hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite); ensure other topicals are dried before application.
- If adhesion prevents painless removal, saturate the dressing with normal saline to aid removal.
- Discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional if signs of infection or sensitivity appear.
- Re-use increases risk of infection or cross-contamination; single-use only.
- Arterial insufficiency wounds require frequent monitoring and specialist management.
- Cavity-shaped dressings are not suitable for dry wounds or deep cavities with only small openings.
- Dispose of the device according to local medical waste regulations.
How to use- 1. Cleanse the wound following local clinical protocols.
- 2. Select a dressing size that overlaps the wound margin by at least 2 cm.
- 3. Remove the sterile dressing from its package using aseptic technique and apply to the wound.
For adhesive variants- 1. Remove the central paper window if present.
- 2. Peel back the large flap of the release liner to expose the adhesive border.
- 3. Position the dressing while removing the smaller flap of the release liner.
- 4. Smooth down the paper frame gradually to ensure full adhesion around the border.
- 5. To remove, loosen the adhesive border before lifting the dressing from the wound.
How does it work?Hydrocellular foam dressings are based on polyurethane foam that is permeable to gases and water vapor. Their hydrophilic structure provides high absorption and moisture management while offering thermal insulation and cushioning to relieve pressure, which can help prevent pressure injuries during prolonged immobilization.
