Overview
Vulcan's fencing wheelchair is a versatile, athlete-focused wheelchair designed for accessible wheelchair fencing in club and training environments. It delivers practical design, flexibility and performance through targeted R&D, prototyping and live testing with British Fencing and GB athletes. Suitable for multiple users within a club environment and available as both a steel club model and bespoke made-to-measure chairs.

Development & Collaboration
Developed in collaboration with British Fencing, the GB Fencing support team and athletes. Feedback from live testing informed refinements to ensure the chair is practical, adaptable and athlete-centred.

Club Model — Steel Club Fencing Wheelchair

• Frame — Construction: Frame made from 1” steel tube.
• Seat Widths: Three standard seat widths: 360mm, 400mm & 440mm.
• Seat Plate: Solid fixed aluminium seat plate.
• Sport Wheels: Fitted as standard with quick release Roader 24” sport wheels.
• Tyres & Pushrims: Supplied with solid Primo tyres and pushrims.
• Cushion: Supplied with a 4” foam cushion for enhanced comfort and support.
• Backrest: Height adjustable backrest with a removable aluminium plate.
• Armrests: Interchangeable armrest — can be fitted left or right.
• Arm Guard: Supplied with a 10mm clear polycarbonate arm guard.
• Footrest: Fully adjustable footrest for personalised positioning and support.

Made to Measure / Contour Body Mapping
Vulcan uses its Contour Body Mapping System (CBM®) to produce bespoke wheelchairs tailored to each fencing athlete. CBM delivers highly precise body measurements (within 2mm accuracy) and captures body position and interaction with the chair to maximise comfort, stability and performance. Fittings and CBM consultations are carried out at Vulcan’s dedicated facility in Bridgend, South Wales.

Materials & Options
Made-to-measure chairs can be produced in multiple materials and metal types; imagery and options reference magnesium, titanium and aluminium constructions/symbols to indicate material choices for bespoke chairs.

Athlete Use & Provenance
Designed for club, grassroots and elite athletes; example pictured: custom made chair for World Cup winner and Commonwealth Champion Gemma Collis.
