Product OverviewThe PFINA Nailing System is an intramedullary implant for treatment of unstable trochanteric and proximal femoral fractures. It includes an antirotation blade option and augmentation capability to improve fixation in osteoporotic bone and to enable early weight bearing.
Key Design FeaturesRotational and angular stability are achieved with a single blade element that compacts cancellous bone to enhance anchorage. The nail geometry includes a 6° medial–lateral angle to permit entry at the tip of the greater trochanter and facilitate optimal trajectory.
Locking OptionsStatic and dynamic distal locking can be performed via the aiming arm on PFINA standard and short variants. The PFINA long additionally permits secondary dynamization. Multiple distal locking configurations are available to adapt to fracture patterns.
PFINA Variants- PFINA Short (Length 180 mm - 240 mm)
- PFINA Long (Length 320 mm - 440 mm)
Indications- Pertrochanteric fractures
- Intertrochanteric fractures
- High subtrochanteric fractures (Short)
- Low and extended subtrochanteric fractures (Long)
- Ipsilateral trochanteric fractures (Long)
- Combination fractures in the proximal femur (Long)
- Pathological fractures (Long)
Contraindications- Isolated or combined medial femoral neck fractures
- Femoral shaft fractures
- Low subtrochanteric fractures (for some variants)
PFINA BladeThe single blade element provides angular and rotational stability while compacting cancellous bone to increase fixation in osteoporotic bone. Lateral locking of the blade is automatically secured to prevent rotation of the blade and femoral head.
Surgical NotesPosition the C-arm in true lateral view aligning the femoral neck axis with the femoral shaft axis. Use the insertion handle orientation lines to adjust rotation of the nail. Under image intensifier control, insert a guide wire into the femoral head to prevent rotation; if required, insert a second antirotation wire following the same technique.
