OverviewPremisut PGA suture is a sterile, synthetic, multifilament braided absorbable surgical suture manufactured from homopolymers of 100% glycolide. The suture is available in dyed (D&C Violet No. 2, in accordance with U.S. CFR) and undyed versions. For smoother passage through tissue, improved handling and reliable knot security, the suture is coated with a blend of polycaprolactone (PCL) and calcium stearate.
IndicationsIntended for use in surgical procedures where an absorbable suture providing short-term wound support is required, including wound closure, soft tissue approximation and ligation.
Biodegradation and Tissue ResponseAfter implantation, Premisut PGA elicits a mild initial inflammatory response and is progressively replaced by ingrowth of fibrous connective tissue. Absorption occurs by hydrolytic degradation of the polyglycolic acid polymer to glycolic acid, which is metabolized and eliminated by the body. Loss of tensile strength precedes complete mass loss.
NotesTechnical characteristics (coating formulation, tensile strength, needle type and packaging) may be adjusted to meet regional regulatory and market requirements.
