OverviewPremisut Catgut Plain is a sterile absorbable surgical suture composed of purified connective tissue (collagen) derived from the sub-mucous layer of sheep (bovine) intestine. It is available as Plain and in a range of gauge sizes and lengths, supplied either non-needled or attached to stainless steel needles of various types and sizes. Premisut Catgut Plain is packed in conditioning fluid whose constituents are isopropanol, water, sodium benzoate and ethylene oxide.
IndicationsPremisut Catgut Plain is indicated for use in soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in plastic and ophthalmic procedures. It is NOT intended for use in cardiovascular and neurological tissues.
Behaviour after implantationWhen implanted, a moderate tissue inflammation occurs as a characteristic foreign body response. Loss of tensile strength and reduction of suture mass follow as the proteolytic enzymatic digestive process proteolyse the surgical catgut. Due to the inherent variability of a natural material, figures for strength loss and absorption following implantation are for guidance only. Effective strength is usually lost between 10 to 12 days. Absorption is essentially complete by 90-100 days.
Packaging and presentationAvailable plain and in a range of gauge sizes and lengths; supplied either non-needled or attached to stainless steel needles of varying types and sizes. The sutures are packed in conditioning fluid (isopropanol, water, sodium benzoate, ethylene oxide).
NotesThe technical characteristics may slightly vary or be adjusted depending on the needs of each market (e.g. coating, tensile strength, needle composition, packaging etc).
