PresentationThe holeboard test is designed to assess exploratory behaviour of mice in a novel environment and to evaluate effects of psychotropic compounds on exploration. The test is short (performed in minutes) and requires no prior conditioning or training of animals.
Operating principleExploratory pokes are automatically detected by infrared sensors. Miniature IR emitters and receptors are embedded in the walls of each hole. The control unit displays results on an LCD screen. A programmable latency filter excludes brief IR interruptions not related to exploration (e.g. tail entries). PC connection is provided for data export and analysis.
