Product Overview
The Ventricular Catheter Kit by Desu is designed for the precise and reliable drainage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in neurosurgical procedures such as hydrocephalus treatment and intracranial pressure monitoring. The kit includes a ventricular catheter, stylet, and right-angled connector. Manufactured from high-quality barium-impregnated silicone and available in both standard and antibiotic-impregnated options, the kit emphasizes radiopacity, safe insertion control, and infection prevention.

Catheter Material and Structure
The ventricular catheter is constructed from barium-impregnated silicone for biocompatibility, flexibility, and radiopacity. Tantalum length markers are included to ensure accurate placement and positioning under imaging guidance (markers begin at the 5th centimeter and extend to the 15th centimeter). The proximal end features six precisely engineered drainage holes arranged in four rows. The internal lumen is smooth to reduce blockage and ensure consistent flow.

Catheter Dimensions
  • Inner Diameter (ID): 1.3 mm
  • Outer Diameter (OD): 2.5 mm
  • Length (L): 23 cm

Kit Components
  • Ventricular Catheter — Soft yet shape-stable catheter with barium infusion for radiopacity.
  • Stylet — Flexible but sturdy stylet to provide rigidity during insertion and navigation.
  • Right-Angled Connector — Enables secure joining to shunts or EVD systems and reduces strain/kinking at the entry point.

Antibiotic-Impregnated Option
An antibiotic-impregnated ventricular catheter variant is offered. Antibiotics embedded in the catheter wall: Clindamycin Hydrochloride and Rifampicin. These are released in a sustained and controlled manner over 28 days to reduce postoperative CSF infection risk.

Safety and Infection Control
Materials are biocompatible and non-toxic to minimize inflammatory or immune responses. Smooth surface and precision holes reduce bacterial adhesion and fluid stagnation. The antibiotic-impregnated variant provides added protection against common gram-positive pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
