The SaberVet Canine Giardia Antigen Rapid Test is sold by Antigenne a lateral flow immunoassay intended for the qualitative detection of specific antigen from Canine Giardia virus in fresh feces or rectal swab sample. The test is useful for determination of GIA infection. It is recommended for dogs with diarrhea, vomiting and watery stools. Description Canine Giardia lamblia is a protozoan that causes intestinal infections in dogs. Infection is usually transmitted through ingestion of contaminated water or food. Canine Giardia infections are usually present with gastrointestinal symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting and loss of appetite. Symptoms Diarrhea: Diarrhea is one of the main symptoms of Canine Giardia Flagellate infection and may present as loose or watery stools. Vomiting: Dogs with a Giardia infection may vomit, especially if the infection is severe or prolonged. Loss of appetite: Giardia-infected dogs may show signs of loss of interest in food or loss of appetite. Weight loss: Pet dogs may gradually lose weight due to loss of appetite and digestive problems. Abdominal discomfort: Pet dogs may show signs of abdominal bloating, abdominal pain or discomfort. Transmission Giardia is transmitted by the fecal-oral route. The cysts are shed in the feces and are immediately infectious upon expulsion.
