Description

The DEFIT® Ultra Small Shunt System is specifically designed for the treatment of hydrocephalus in neonates, infants, and pediatric patients, where accurate and controlled cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage is essential. Its compact design makes it particularly suitable for patients with limited anatomical space while maintaining reliable long-term performance.

All DEFIT® silicone valves are manufactured using medical-grade silicone elastomer and polypropylene, materials selected for their excellent biocompatibility, durability, and mechanical stability. This combination minimizes the risk of valve deformation and sticking over time, helping to ensure consistent valve performance throughout the implant's lifetime.

Each valve incorporates a membrane valve mechanism that provides stable and predictable CSF flow regulation while maintaining dependable pressure control. In addition, the integrated reservoir allows convenient CSF sampling and facilitates functional assessment of the shunt system during postoperative follow-up.

Flow regulation is achieved through a precisely engineered mechanical valve design that utilizes the principles of fluid dynamics. By controlling pressure differentials and flow resistance within the valve, the system provides accurate CSF diversion to help maintain appropriate intracranial pressure.

The DEFIT® Ultra Small Shunt System is available in Low Pressure configuration and is offered in the following versions:

The antibiotic-impregnated version incorporates antimicrobial protection within the catheter material to help reduce the risk of bacterial colonization during the early postoperative period, while preserving the same mechanical performance and clinical reliability as the standard system.
