Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) test system C390H is an automated infrared-sensor-based instrument designed to measure WVTR of medium- and high-barrier materials in compliance with ISO 15106-2 and ASTM F1249. It supports simultaneous testing of three specimens with precise temperature, humidity and carrier-gas flow control, suitable for films, sheets and whole-package testing across food, pharmaceutical, medical, electronics and industrial applications.
Key functionality and design- Proprietary infrared water-vapor sensor providing high sensitivity and stability without frequent range-specific calibration.
- Patented integrated three-cell testing block with optimized hydrodynamic and thermodynamic layout for improved measurement uniformity across cells.
- Automatic control of temperature, humidity and flow rate with independent monitoring sensors for each test cell.
- Three identical test cells enable parallel testing of three specimens under identical conditions for higher throughput.
- 12" touch-screen pad (Windows 11) and optional DataShield™ software for automated data management and export.
Test principleThe specimen is mounted in a diffusion cell divided into a dry chamber and a controlled-humidity chamber. Dry high-purity nitrogen sweeps the dry side; permeating water vapor is carried by the carrier gas to the infrared sensor and converted to electrical signals from which WVTR is calculated. For whole-package specimens, nitrogen flows inside the package while the outside is maintained at high humidity.
