OverviewPlanmeca ProMax® 2D units are complete maxillofacial imaging systems designed for modern 2D panoramic dental imaging. Their design and operating principles are based on current scientific research and technological innovations to meet clinical requirements and workflow needs.
Models / Options- Planmeca ProMax® 2D S3 — three-joint (SCARA3) unit for comprehensive 2D imaging: panoramic, true extraoral bitewing, TMJ and sinus imaging. Includes Autofocus feature.
- Planmeca ProMax® 2D S2 — two-joint (SCARA2) panoramic unit with essential programs for panoramic, extraoral bitewing, TMJ and sinus imaging.
Imaging capabilitiesPanoramic imaging, extraoral bitewing (including true extraoral bitewing), TMJ (lateral and PA, closed & open), sinus imaging (PA and lateral), horizontal and vertical segmenting, standard panoramic and bitewing programs. Child mode reduces imaging area and exposure for lower-dose examinations.
Patient positioningThe open-face architecture provides an unrestricted view for accurate positioning. Positioning is available automatically via the unit’s autofocus (S3) or manually using a triple laser beam system indicating correct anatomical alignment points.
User interfaceThe units include a guided, user-friendly control panel. Pre-programmed sites and exposure values for different image types and targets streamline workflow and reduce setup time.
Image quality features- Adjustable focal layer: select the focal layer shape from the graphical user interface to match the size and shape of the patient’s jaw.
- Digital Dynamic Exposure Control (DEC): automatically adjusts exposure values per patient based on anatomical structure and bone density for consistent brightness and contrast.
- Autofocus (Planmeca ProMax® 2D S3): uses a low-dose scout image of the central incisors to position the focal layer automatically, reducing retakes.
Mechanics & technologyPatented SCARA (Selectively Compliant Articulated Robot Arm) technology provides articulated robotic arm movements required for accurate rotational maxillofacial imaging and anatomically correct imaging geometry.
Programs & upgradeabilityWide variety of imaging programs for diverse clinical needs. Modular design allows conversion and upgrades (for example, from 2D to 3D or by adding a cephalometric arm) to expand imaging modalities when required.
Clinical applicationsDesigned for demanding 2D panoramic dental imaging in clinical practice, covering general panoramic requirements and specialized diagnostic imaging such as TMJ and sinus examinations.
