Description

Product overview
Removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks manufactured from WIRONIUM 4 RP using CAD/CAM workflows and Selective Laser Melting (SLM). Biocompatible, corrosion-resistant cobalt-based alloy specifically developed for additive production of dental RPD frameworks. Approved as a Class IIa medical device.

CAD/CAM processing solution
  • 3D printing with metal powder (Selective Laser Melting) for dental applications
  • CAD data controls a laser to melt metallic powder layer-by-layer to build frameworks
  • Suitable for individual, complex metal frameworks

The alloy: WIRONIUM 4 RP
  • Non-precious cobalt-based alloy designed for additive production of RPD frameworks
  • Further development of the proven WIRONIUM 4 casting alloy
  • Optimised for digital production of dental RPD frameworks using SLM
  • Biocompatible and corrosion resistant
  • Approved as a Class IIa medical device

Chemical composition (in %)
Co 66.2 · Cr 28.2 · Mo 5.5 · N < 1

Physical material data
Density: 8.5 g/cm³
Modulus of elasticity: 235 GPa
0.2 % Elongation limit (R0.2): 800 MPa
Ductile yield (A5): 13 %
Hardness (HV10): 395

Indications
  • Clasp-retained partial dentures for upper and lower jaw, polished
  • Clasp-retained partial dentures for upper and lower jaw, unpolished
  • Retentions for upper and lower jaw RPD-IFR, polished
  • Retentions for upper and lower jaw RPD-IFR, unpolished
  • Secondary bar structures, unpolished
  • Service parts, RPD repair, unpolished

Notes
Restorations are custom-made products in accordance with Directive 93/42/EEC. WIRONIUM 4 RP is a cobalt-based dental alloy and complies with ISO 22674 and ISO 9693-1.

Warnings
Metal dust is harmful to health. Grinding and blasting should be performed using an appropriate extraction system. Respiratory protection of type FFP3 EN149 is recommended.

Precautions
  • In case of approximal or occlusal contact with other metals, electromechanically-related numbness may occur in very rare cases
  • No findings on safety and effectiveness of treatment for children or pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • WIRONIUM 4 RP may disrupt MRI analyses and should be removed before such examinations

Adverse effects
WIRONIUM 4 RP has no known adverse effects overall. Individual reactions (e.g. allergies or incompatibilities) to components can occur in very rare cases; affected restorations should no longer be used in such cases.

Highlights
  • Industrial production process with heat treatment adapted to the alloy ensures an above-average fit of SLM-fabricated RPD frameworks even in complex cases
  • High ductility allows activation of clasps similar to cast components; high fatigue strength due to homogeneous, pore-free structure
  • High efficiency and design freedom through digitization (CAD design and CAM production); resource-efficient compared to milling
  • Excellent polishing properties comparable to cast components; available on request with high-gloss polish for minimal reworking

Add-ons / Portfolio enhancements
Additional modular components for partial denture manufacturing (retentions, repair parts, polished/unpolished retentive grids and repair parts) to support laboratory workflows and customization.
