All MediCare Gynae pessaries are a Class IIa Medical Device intended for short-term use (up to 30 days) and self-management.
A short stem pessary is typically used to manage pelvic organ prolapse, particularly in women with:
Uterine prolapse
Vaginal vault prolapse (especially post-hysterectomy)
Cystocele (bladder prolapse)
Rectocele (rectal wall prolapse)
Specific Use of a Short Stem Pessary:
A short stem version (usually a variation of a Gellhorn pessary) is chosen when:
The patient has a shorter vaginal canal, often due to surgery (like a hysterectomy) or natural anatomy.
The user is less sexually active or not at all, as stemmed pessaries generally need to be removed for intercourse.
Supportive strength is needed, as the flat disc and stem provide firm support to hold prolapsed organs in place.
The short stem allows easier insertion and removal while still offering the structural support needed to relieve prolapse symptoms such as pressure, discomfort, or urinary issues.
