Description

Overview
The Downflow Bench DFB is a downflow cutting table designed for pathology and histology laboratories and for mobile applications. It extracts vapours and odors at the work surface through high-efficiency activated carbon filters, allowing installation without external ducting. Work surfaces are stainless steel 316 and the base is powder-coated steel. All units include airflow velocity alarms and visual/acoustic process monitoring for safe operation.

Key characteristics
  • Airflow management: Activated carbon–filtered exhaust captures particles and solvent vapours directly at the perforated work surface.
  • Targeted table extraction: Localised extraction maintains a clean working zone and reduces exposure for operators.
  • No external ducts required: Self-contained filtration eliminates the need for building exhaust systems and simplifies installation.
  • Flexible deployment: Portable installation options enable use in fixed labs or mobile setups.
  • Customisable dimensions: Available as standard models or made-to-measure configurations to match site-specific workflows.
  • Corrosion-resistant surfaces: Worktops in stainless steel 316 provide chemical and corrosion resistance suited to laboratory cleaning agents.
  • Process monitoring: Airflow velocity alarm plus visual and acoustic indicators ensure reliable operational control.
  • Integrated utilities: Cold and hot water taps, showers and sinks are provided for cleaning and hygiene.

Requirements
  • Local vapour protection: Effective local exhaust at the workstation minimises inhalation risk from solvents used in pathology and histology processes.
  • High-performance activated carbon filters: Filters must offer sufficient adsorption capacity and a defined replacement schedule to maintain filtration efficiency.
  • Ergonomics and access: Open work surface and adjustable working height support precise handling and unrestricted movement during procedures.

Functional principle
Vapours are drawn downward through the perforated work surface and directed into the activated carbon filter modules, removing contaminants before air is recirculated. This localised downflow extraction protects the operator without the need for acrylic or glass containment panels.
