Antigen backgroundAnaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) typically comprises large pleomorphic cells that express CD30 and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA). These tumor cells commonly occur in younger patients and may involve cutaneous and extranodal sites. A subset harbors the t(2;5)(p23;q35) chromosomal translocation, producing an NPM‑ALK fusion that generates the p80 protein. Large cell lymphomas represent about 25% of pediatric and young adult non‑Hodgkin lymphomas, with roughly one third carrying the NPM‑ALK translocation.
DisclaimerALK is intended for detection of specific antigens in normal and neoplastic tissues as an adjunct to conventional histopathology using non‑immunologic histochemical stains. Interpretation should be performed by qualified personnel within an appropriate clinical and laboratory context.
