Description

Antigen Background Dystrophin associated glycoproteins (DAGs) are involved in the attachment of dystrophin to muscle membranes. The biological significance of this dystrophin/glycoprotein complex is not fully understood, but it appears to form an essential linkage between actin on the inside of the muscle fiber and muscle laminin in the basal lamina which surrounds the fiber. Beta-dystroglycan spans the sarcolemma and it has been suggested that it is the member of the complex which binds directly to dystrophin. Disclaimer Beta-Dystroglycan is recommended for the detection of specific antigens of interest in normal and abnormal tissues, as an adjunct to conventional histopathology using non-immunologic histochemical stains.
