Antigen BackgroundCaveolin-1 is a principal structural component of caveolae, small invaginations of the plasma membrane found in multiple cell types. It regulates several signaling pathways and is most abundantly expressed in terminally differentiated mesenchymal cells such as smooth muscle cells, adipocytes and endothelial cells. Elevated expression is also observed in fibroblasts, showing a fine granular membranous and diffuse cytoplasmic staining pattern.
