Overview: The Hoffman 3D brain phantom is a reference anatomical phantom designed for realistic three-dimensional simulation of the human brain. It accurately reproduces the relative distribution of gray matter, white matter and ventricles as observed in clinical brain imaging. The phantom is built from a precisely machined stack of slices to simulate a gray/white matter activity ratio of 4:1 via partial-volume effects. A single fillable chamber simplifies preparation while ensuring homogeneous activity distribution. Ventricles are represented as non-active regions.
Main applications:
- Evaluation of acquisition and reconstruction methods in brain imaging
- Validation of 3D reconstruction algorithms
- Study of attenuation and scatter effects
- Assessment of SPECT/PET/MRI registration
- Research and development
