Product OverviewThe SVANOVIR EHV1/EHV4-Ab is an indirect ELISA designed for the detection and differentiation of specific antibodies to Equine Herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1) and type 4 (EHV-4) in equine serum and plasma samples. This assay is validated by the University of Kentucky and the University of Melbourne, confirming its effectiveness in managing EHV-positive horses during outbreaks, tournaments, and race meetings.
Features and Benefits- Highly accurate and valuable tool for detecting EHV-1 infection in EHV-4 positive horses
- The only serological test to differentiate between EHV-1 and EHV-4
- Excellent for screening maternal antibodies in foals to predict optimal vaccination timing
- Allows risk-classification of mares into EHV-1 exposed and susceptible groups
- Developed in collaboration with the Centre for Equine Virology, University of Melbourne
- Approved by the University of Kentucky as an easy-to-use tool offering rapid results
About Equine HerpesvirusThe Equine Herpesviruses type 1 (EHV-1) and 4 (EHV-4) are ubiquitous pathogens affecting horse populations worldwide. Despite widespread vaccination, EHV-1 and EHV-4 infections remain a permanent risk. EHV-1 can cause severe respiratory infection, abortions, neonatal foal death, and myeloencephalopathy, while EHV-4 primarily causes respiratory disease. Both types can establish lifelong latent infections with recurrent reactivation.
Discriminating between antibodies to the two types is crucial for detecting EHV-1 exposure and preventing unnecessary sanitation and quarantine procedures for EHV-4 cases. Antibodies to EHV are highly cross-reactive, necessitating highly specific tests for accurate discrimination.
