Description
Spastic hand results from loss of inhibition of motor neurons from the central nervous system (CNS), causing excessive muscle contraction due to light stimuli. Spasticity often follows cerebral palsy (CP), stroke or injuries. Treatment aims to reduce muscle tension; besides pharmacology and physical therapy, passive treatment using a dynamic functional resting splint helps by positioning the hand in the required position and preventing progression of the condition.

Product description
Dynamic functional resting splint with thumb, fully adjustable and universal for left or right hand. The design reduces stock requirements for medical shops by being suitable for either side. Wrist and hand sections can be contoured by hand to progressively position the hand from a flexed position to a functional position. Thumb can be positioned from mid-range opposition to abduction. The forearm section is fully moldable for optimal fit and comfort and improved stabilization.

Optionally the splint may be used with a standard or neuro-rheumatological fingers separator; this construction stabilizes fingers as well as the wrist. Fastening to the upper limb uses a wide spiral tape for hand and forearm plus a thin tape to stabilize the thumb; adjustment across a wide range of motion is possible without difficulty. Per customer request (extra price), the standard separator may be substituted for a neurological separator which stabilizes each finger separately.

Materials / Technology

• Cover material: UniPren™ – a 3-layer material (external elastic polyamide cover knit with self-adhesive function, neoprene foam core, elastic jersey cover knit) characterized by softness, high flexibility and self-adhesive function; not knitted so it does not imprint on skin.
• Stiffening: aluminum frame for hand and forearm; steel base with soft aluminum sheets that can be hand-shaped by clinician; hand part includes thumb stabilizer.
• Paddings: 3D relief supports (supporting foams or EVA foam) to relieve rigid elements and provide anatomical cushioning.

Additional notes
