Description

Overview
AUTOCAL delivers parallel, automated in‑situ calorimetry integrated into Quality‑by‑Design (QbD) process reactors to accelerate safety assessment, kinetic characterization and process development workflows.

Solution summary
The AUTOCAL solution supports MULTIPLANT (semi‑automated) and AUTOPLANT (fully automated) configurations. Each reactor is independently controlled and can integrate multiple analytical probes, enabling high‑throughput, comparable thermochemical datasets across parallel experiments.

Workflow (example sequence)
  • Design of experiments (DoE)
  • Inertise reactor
  • Charge and heat solvent
  • Add catalyst
  • Controlled additions of gases (e.g. H2, CO)
  • Real‑time in‑situ calorimetry measurement
  • Automated sampling and GC/HPLC analysis

Benefits and capabilities
  • Independent control of temperature (internal and/or jacket) and stirring for each reactor, supporting large ΔT between adjacent vessels.
  • Available reactor volumes: 100 mL, 240 mL, 1,000 mL (individually controlled tanks).
  • High throughput: up to 12/24 experiments per AUTOPLANT run; up to 6 per MULTIPLANT run.
  • Integrated in‑situ calorimetry with optional NIR, pH probes and GC sampling integration.
  • Patented overhead gravimetric dispensing for solids and viscous liquids plus volumetric 4‑needle liquid head for feeding and sampling under reaction conditions.
  • Multiple independent gas and liquefied‑gas feeds and precise continuous liquid feeds per reactor.
  • Automated feeding/sampling under reaction conditions and cleaning‑in‑place (CIP) capability.
  • Support for downstream unit operations: extraction, filtration, evaporation, crystallization, distillation.
  • Ventilated hood for conditioned, safe operation with sensitive or hazardous chemistries.
  • AUTOSUITE software for drag & drop experiment design, Python device integration, LIMS/ELN connectivity and AI/ML closed‑loop workflows.

Typical applications
Parallel in‑situ calorimetry for safety evaluation, kinetic studies, process optimization and high‑throughput reaction screening in R&D, process development and QC environments.
