Description
Ehrlichia Canis, Leishmania Canis, Anaplasma Canis and Babesia gibberii are the four pathogens that cause blood-related diseases, and although they have their own characteristics, they also have some common features.
Similarities
Transmission route:
Both are transmitted by vectors: Ehrlichia Canis, Anaplasma Canis and Babesia gibberii are transmitted by ticks, and Leishmaniasis Canis is transmitted by sandflies (sandflies).
Symptoms:
They can all cause systemic symptoms such as fever, drowsiness, and weight loss.
Can cause anemia and enlarged lymph nodes.
Geographical distribution:
It is distributed globally and is more common especially in media-active regions.
Differences
Specific symptoms:
Ehrlichia Canis: Nose bleeding, bleeding tendency, joint pain, and eye problems (such as uveitis).
Leishmania Canis: skin ulcers, depilation, skin thickening, weight loss, nose bleeding and kidney failure.
Canine Anaplasma: acute anemia, jaundice, spleen enlargement.
Babesia gibsoni Canis: severe anemia, jaundice, fever and renal insufficiency.
Detection methods
Ehrlichia Canis:
Blood smear test: Ehrlich’s bodies can be observed on a blood smear, and blood biochemistry and complete blood count indicate anemia, thrombocytopenia, etc.
